Volare at Skky Hotel - Pleasant Experience

Written by Evan Wise on November 9, 2010

Really good food.
Excellent service. I had duck (medium - very tasty), she had the lamb (medium - also very tasty).
We had a starter of prosciutto wrapped scallops - the scallops were firm, but not too firm. The prosciutto was cripsy, but not too crispy.
Ended the evening with chocolate lava cake. Yum!

The place was full, yet service was prompt.

Only thing pulling down from 5 stars is the inclusion of a television playing hockey in what, for Whitehorse, is a more upscale dining experience.

Recommended, make reservations!

Bent Spoon Cafe - Great sandwiches

Written by Evan Wise on July 30, 2010

Simply awesome sandwiches. I also recommend the #1. Great bread, fresh everything. Awesomeness. I also like the wrapper the sandwich comes in, it's classy. Well worth the price.

Small business, this is primarily a take-out eatery.
Lines can get long at crunch times; I sometimes get impatient and don't like to wait for my awesome sandwich. Darn these sandwiches for being awesome!

Yukon Brewing - Great Beer

Written by Evan Wise on June 2, 2010

The beers they make are award winning, world class products.

If you get a growlers (mentioned in other reviews) you can buy some of their seasonal/specialty beers; only available anywhere from the brewery.

They are very active supporters of events in the Yukon. Another great reason to buy their beer!

Wolf's Den Restaurant - Great food and cozy location.

One of our favourites. The schnitzel spaetzle are awesome. Most of the meals are fairly heavy and may require a nap after eating.
You wouldn't think that a restaurant next to a camp site would be all that good, but it is a pleasant surprise.
Good service, great food.

Northwestel - Merely decent

Written by Evan Wise on February 15, 2010

Considering we live in the middle of nowhere the quality and speed of our communication services are decent. They provide the pipe, I use it.

Their customer support can be awesome or painful - depending on the representative you get. I have experienced multiple billing problems over the years and they fix them helpfully - usually double billed for some reason.

Cable internet (don't have TV package) is a BIG step up from ADSL.

Qwanlin Cinema Centre - Better than Yukon Cinemas

Written by Evan Wise on February 15, 2010

Not great sound, not great picture, OK seating.
Much cleaner than Yukon Cinemas.
Definitely lacks in atmosphere.

The only downtown theatre I will even consider going to see a movie at, but not very frequently.

The KEBABery - Very good lunch spot

Written by Evan Wise on February 5, 2010

Very good food.
The line up at lunch time can be pretty long so get there a bit earlier or a bit later to avoid the wait.
I like that you can compost or recycle almost everything that your food is served on.

MEADIA Solutions - Very handy Apple authorized dealer

They have good selection and are excellent at getting repairs done the first time.

Main complaint is with the constant sales pitch when I know exactly what I need.

Roadhouse Inn Lounge - Awesome burgers

Written by Evan Wise on February 1, 2010

Best lunch time burger in town. The Roadhouse burger is a monster of cheese, bacon and grilled mushrooms and peppers. If you have a fear of grease - avoid.

Good atmosphere and usually very quick to deliver your order.

Solid value for dollar.
